Feliz Cinco de Mayo! Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "Fifth of May") is also called the Anniversary of the Battle of Puebla. This holiday is celebrated in parts of Mexico and the United States in honor of a military victory in 1862 over Napoleon III and the French Military. The Battle of Puebla became a symbol of Mexican resistance to foreign domination. In the mid-20th-century United States, joined the celebration of Cinco de Mayo as a way for Mexican immigrants to encourage pride in their Mexican heritage.
